In 1986 Miss Mary Campbell made contact with the Mayor of North Down, Councillor Donald Hayes with a view to establishing a cross border link between her school and a school in Bangor. Donald Hayes was at the time a senior teacher at Glenlola Collegiate and put Miss Campbell in contact with Miss Joyce McClelland then Head of History. It was from this that our long standing relationship with Loreto College Dublin began in what was a sensitive political situation in Northern Ireland.

The exchange involves pupils being matched with a partner from their respective schools. Pupils and staff from Loreto College travel to Bangor once a year, stay in their host partner's homes and take part in joint cultural, educational and social activities e.g. trips to Stormont, Belfast Castle, City Hall and more relaxed activities in the evening which enable the two groups to get to know each other. Pupils and staff from Glenlola Collegiate travel to Dublin later in the year and enjoy a similiar programme of events.

Organisation for this activity is done by the History Department with the full support of the Headmaster Mr R J Finlay and closely follows Department of Education and School policies on Child Protection. Parents are fully informed of activities and arrangements well in advance.
We were very proud to celebrate twenty years of our Exchange Programme with Loreto College in the academic year 2006/7. Student and staff friendships have been formed over the years and we look forward to the continuation of this important area of the extra-curricular life of the school.
